NPAAMB is pleased to announce our 6th annual Opportunity Knocks career planning conference for Indigenous youth in high school from our five catchment areas: Brantford, Hamilton, Fort Erie, Kitchener-Waterloo, and St. Catharines.

The theme of the 2 ½ day conference is “Breaking the Mold” and is focussed on the skilled trades sector.

The goal of the conference is to provide Indigenous youth with an exposure to the opportunities and possibilities for career pathways after high school graduation. This year’s focus will be on trades and apprenticeship including post-secondary education, self-employment, scholarships, bursaries, and volunteerism. Students will be able to participate in interactive workshops, presentations, skills competition, a trade show, and traditional cultural teachings.

Indigenous youth are the fastest growing demographic in Canada and will serve as a viable solution to the labour market skills shortage in the coming years. Investing in the development and skills training now will ultimately benefit Canadian employers and the economy.

The conference app will help registered youth navigate conference workshops, showcase guest speakers, as well as highlight sponsors and tradeshow vendors. Youth and guests will also be able to complete the end of conference survey.
